Duke Health & Well-Being Coaching empowers clients to make lasting behavior changes that are the foundation for a lifetime of health and well-being. Health is impacted by multiple interconnected dimensions. These dimensions include the choices one makes that affect their physical, mental, spiritual well-being and the medical care approaches utilized for their health. A Health & Well-Being Coach helps support their clients in discovering ways to successfully implement healthy lifestyle behaviors across these various dimensions into their unique lives.
Duke’s world-class program is based in research and years of clinical experience. The Duke Health & Well-Being Coach Training (DHWCT) combines an online curriculum with instructor-led training and experiential practice that prepares graduates to immediately utilize their skills. Coaches will:
- Gain an understanding of the science of behavior change, personal health planning, the Wheel of Health, and mindful awareness.
- Learn the essential elements of Health & Well-Being Coaching and how to apply them with individuals and groups.
- Acquire the coaching expertise needed to successfully motivate others to adopt positive behaviors for sustainable health and wellness.

- Standards: DHWCT is a National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) Approved Program, having met the 2018 Program Approval Standards. Graduates of DHWCT are eligible to apply to sit for the National Board Examination.
